The Western Australian Council of State School Organisations has welcomed the appointment of Lisa Rodgers as the new Director General of the Department of Education.

Ms Rodgers will commence in the role on January 28, 2019, bringing with her extensive experience in a variety of education roles spanning almost 20 years. Since 2016, Ms Rodgers has been chief executive of the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership.

WACSSO President Kylie Catto said she is looking forward to working with Ms Rodgers in representing parents of students at government schools.

Ms Rodgers, in turn, has expressed her commitment to working alongside WACSSO and continuing the strong relationships that have already been built between the two organisations.

Ms Catto lauded former Education Department DG Sharyn O’Neill, who led the Department for the past 12 years and was the driving force behind the biggest reform of public education in Western Australia.

She also thanked and acknowledged Acting Director General Jennifer McGrath, for the work carried out during her period of acting in the role during the appointment process.
